Join us for two performances in one fabulous evening with Rising Stars from the Colburn School, pianists Ray Ushikubo and Chi-Jo Lee. Each artist will perform one 45-minute set.
About Ray Ushikubo
Ray Ushikubo is a 23-year-old Japanese-American pianist known for his remarkable versatility and artistry. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Ushikubo made his orchestral debut at age 10 and has since appeared with major orchestras, including the San Diego Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, and Buffalo Philharmonic, often performing on both piano and violin in the same concert. A winner of prestigious competitions like the Hilton Head International Piano Competition, he has collaborated with Lang Lang, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and other renowned musicians. Currently pursuing his Master of Music degrees at the Colburn Conservatory, Ushikubo continues to captivate audiences across classical, jazz, and experimental genres.
About Chi-Jo Lee
Chi-Jo Lee is a versatile pianist known for her excellence in solo, chamber, and contemporary music. Currently pursuing an Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory, she previously studied under Fabio Bidini and André Watts. A prizewinner in competitions such as The Wideman Piano Competition and The Gurwitz, she has performed across the U.S., Europe, and Asia. An accomplished chamber musician, she has collaborated with renowned artists like Susan Graham and Tessa Lark and has been featured in The San Diego Union-Tribune and The Santa Barbara Independent. Passionate about contemporary music, she has performed works by Steve Reich, Nico Muhly, and Andy Akiho.
