Spanish Harlem Orchestra

Saturday, February 18th, 2012, 8pm
Ventura High School
2 North Catalina, Ventura, CA

One of the hottest salsa orchestras on the Latin jazz scene today, this 2011 Grammy-winning ensemble brings their feisty, big-brass New York City sound to Ventura.

Directed and composed by world-renowned pianist, arranger and producer Oscar Hernandez, the Spanish Harlem Orchestra’s music is original, bold and sassy, yet true to classic salsa rhythms.

Guaranteed to make you want to smile and move to their effervescent beat. Not to be missed for salsa lovers far and wide!

From OpusOne Review of June 2011 Toronto Jazz Festival concert,“Spanish Harlem orchestra’s New York Salsa ripped through the tent like a tropical typhoon…the Hernandez arrangements, as complex as any jazzband charts, are an organized, multi-layered assault involving 2 trumpets, 2 trombones, sax/flute, piano, congas, bongos, timbales, claves, cowbell, guiro, all totally tight with…[a] smiling, dancing, vocal trio.”
