New! The Festival opens under the stars in the intimate courtyard of the historic Olivas Adobe with an “American roots music at its finest” concert at 7:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm for guests to enjoy pre-concert dining. BYO picnic and beverages or enjoy full bar service on site and purchase a slice or two from the food truck of PizzaMan Dan, who is generously donating proceeds to VMF—the entire concert is a benefit for the Festival’s Young Artists Fund.

Acclaimed for "warmth and storytelling" along with incomparable songwriting and harmony vocals, “the best string players in the world” are led by “guitarist’s guitarist” John Jorgenson joined by music legends Herb Pedersen, Mark Fain and Patrick Sauber.

Jorgenson and Pedersen are founders (with Chris Hillman) of the formative country rock group Desert Rose Band.

John Jorgenson portrayed Django Reinhardt in the 2004 Hollywood feature film Head in the Clouds and won a Grammy© in 2008 for Best Country Instrumental with Brad Paisley (he was also nominated for Best Bluegrass Album with Earl Scruggs).

Herb Pedersen was a member of legendary bluegrass band The Dillards as well as bluegrass super-group Old and In the Way. A sought-after singer and musician, he has worked with such music legends as Gram Parsons, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, Tony Rice and Jackson Browne.

Mark Fain has toured and recorded as bass player for Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder for 13 years as well as the Dixie Chicks, Alan Jackson, Travis Tritt, Dwight Yoakam, Allison Krauss and Dolly Parton. He’s also produced many artists in jazz, country, bluegrass and gospel genres.

Patrick Sauber has quickly made a name for himself in the world of bluegrass and old time music. Equally adept on guitar, mandolin and banjo, he has toured with Peter Rowan and Laurie Lewis and appeared on screen in the 2003 feature film The Mighty Wind.

J2B2 recorded its debut album From The Crow’s Nest in Sheryl Crow’s home barn studio in Nashville and released it as part of the critically acclaimed 3-CD box set DIVERTUOSO (Cleopatra Records) which also includes two other albums: Returning (gypsy jazz) by the John Jorgenson Quintet and Gifts From The Flood (instrumental electric guitar) by John Jorgenson.

Over the past three years, J2B2 has toured Norway and the UK; appeared at the RockyGrass Festival in Lyons (CO) and Joe Val Festival in Framingham (MA); and headlined at the Guitar Town Festival in Copper Mountain (CO). J2B2 made its Grand Ole Opry debut in 2013 with many returns to the Opry since.
